Camp Barnabas

Camp Barnabas exists to provide life-changing opportunities to people with special needs in a Christian camp setting.

Located in the southwest corner of Missouri, each summer we offer acceptance and love to more than 1,300 campers with special needs. Through adaptive activities, people with physical, mental, and/or medical challenges become participants, not observers, in the world around them. They leave Camp Barnabas knowing they are uniquely created to live lives of ability.

Each week of camp is designed around meeting specific special needs. Your camper will enjoy all the typical activities of summer camp adapted to meet their special ability. They will be paired with a one-on-one volunteer for the week who, along with our summer and year-round staff, will ensure they have the best week possible.

We also have a custom-written program for siblings during the weeks targeted toward campers under the age of 17. During their week at camp they hang out with other guys and gals who understand the dynamics of living in families with special needs. And while their children are enjoying themselves at Camp Barnabas, parents have the chance to take a break from the day-to-day care of their special child.

For questions about campers qualification and registration, contact our registrar, Libby LaGarce at 417-476-2565 or email libby@campbarnabas.org.

Each summer over 2,400 volunteers help us provide an incredible life-changing opportunity to campers with special needs and chronic diseases. And, in the process, these guys and gals undergo significant life-change themselves.

All volunteers arrive one day before campers and undergo intensive training to prepare them for their roles at Camp Barnabas.

Individual CIA's

Sometimes it’s hard for us to measure who undergoes the most life change each summer – our campers, our staff…..or our volunteers. They tell us their time at Camp Barnabas gives them a new perspective on all the relationships in their life. While 80% of our volunteers come with a mission group from churches, schools and organizations around the country, the 20% who come as individual CIA's have just as much fun stretching and growing.

For Individuels 14-19

Barnstormers: 14–and 15–year–olds who truly are servants of God. This position is not for the faint-hearted!

Cabin Counselors: 16-to 29-year-olds who are placed with a camper to work one-on-one with that camper for the week and unconditionally love and accept their camper, care for all of their camper’s needs and to assist their camper in having the most awesome week of summer camp ever.

Wranglers: Anyone 18 or older, with horse experience, is invited to be a wrangler with us at camp.

For Individuals 30 and over

Medical Team: Each week we use a team of registered nurses and licensed physicians to care for the medical needs of everyone at camp. If you are interested in a position on the medical team, please contact Cyndy Teas at cyndy@campbarnabas.org or call 417.476.2565.

Cabin Mom/Cabin Dad: Each week, we need about 18 special adults who are assigned to work with a particular cabin for the week.

Cook’s Helper: Our cooks need your help! The job of the cook’s helper usually consists of chopping, stirring and cleaning the kitchen.

Maintenance: If you are an adult who wants to get your hands dirty and help keep things running around camp, this is the job for you.

Nurses' Assistant:  Do you have a heart for sick children and adults? We are looking for volunteers to serve as nurses' assistants.
